Vanilla Coconut Frozen Yogurt (Dairy-Free, Sugar-Free & Vegan)

Want a healthy, dairy-free yogurt you can make in under 30 minutes that tastes great and will make your belly happy too? Then look no further!
Frozen Yogurt Shops are all over where I live. I am sure they will be quite crowded this week-it’s going to be in the 80′s here all week! Many of the shops offer an abundance of toppings; everything from fresh fruit to candy to chocolate. This homemade yogurt is lightly sweetened, but not tart and is tasty by itself or with any topping you desire. Here’s the scoop:

Add to Vitamix or Blender:
2 cans coconut milk (this brand is BPA free)
6 probiotic capsules or probiotic of choice (empty contents and discard capsules)
1/3 cup coconut nectar (or sweetener of choice)
1 Tbsp. vanilla extract

Blend on high for 2 minutes. Pour mixture into an ice cream maker and process according to manufacturer’s directions for 25 minutes. Scoop into bowls and top with whatever your heart desires. I highly recommend pouring some extra coconut nectar on top with fresh fruit or chocolate chips–it tastes similar to caramel!

Makes 4 servings.

  1. Wow! this is delicious.I have never tried making yogurt with coconut milk.

  2. Do you know of any probiotic capsuals that don't have cassien(milk), I am allergic to Dairy.

  3. Hi Nancy,

Great question. This is a probiotic I love that has no trace amounts of dairy in it at all:

    Take Care!

  4. I make coconut milk kefir yogurt with my kefir grains. It's absolutely to die for and there is no need for probiotic capsules, etc… The best part, it's dairy free. For those of you that do not know, milk kefir grains can be used with coconut milk. You'll need to take breaks and go back to dairy, but if you are only slightly sensitive, you can rinse them, give the milk kefir to someone else, then do a fresh batch of coconut milk kefir for yourself. I don't do dairy, but I am not allergic, so traces of it are ok for me. Anyway, I've been making it for awhile now and have my entire house obsessed too. ;-)

  5. That sounds amazing. My good friend makes coconut milk kefir as well and loves it. I need to get on it and make some!

  6. Oh! One of our favorite family outings used to be going to the Fro-yo shop. Well, now we can just do it at home! I am definitely going to try this…once I get my hands on an ice cream maker…

  7. Hi Laura. I love this idea. Especially since I totally suck at making homemade yogurt. I've tried about 5 times and it is still not quite right. I eat it, but I'm looking for more of a traditional texture. But I love your idea here of frozen yogurt! Yes please. And don't you just LOVE coconut nectar. It's my fave. :-)

    Hugs,

  8. This sounds great! Why is it that you don't have to incubate the yogurt to let the culture do its thing and make the yogurt all tart?

  9. Awesome question Allison! This is meant to be just a quick, fast "yogurt" that the family will enjoy and get a probiotic boost from. I plan to make a traditional dairy-free yogurt that incubates in the near future. If you want to make this yogurt more tart, I would use less coconut nectar and let the probiotics sit with the coconut milk in the fridge overnight. Take Care!

  10. I basically have to convince myself to resist going to frozen yogurt shops every weekend, because they're so expensive! Love this recipe to make froyo at home! it sounds delicious.

  11. Sounds amazing. Great tip about the BPA free coconut milk. I have to get an ice cream maker.
I just started following you and would love a follow back.

  12. This looks fabolous! I really need to invest in an ice creamer maker!
