My Favorite Gluten-Free Beauty Products

Gluten Free, List, Beauty Products, Cosmetics, Jason Natural

Avoiding gluten? Then you should probably check that the lotion you are putting on your body or the shampoo you are using does not contain gluten. Sadly most cosmetics do (not to mention chemical additives and the like). Even trace amounts of gluten can be absorbed into the bloodstream and cause problems for celiacs and those sensitive to gluten. It has been my experience that beauty products that do not contain gluten often are much more natural because they are made from pure, organic ingredients.

These are ingredients in cosmetics that could contain gluten and are best avoided:

barley extract

fermented grain extract

hyrolyzed malt extract

hydrolyzed wheat protein

hydrolyzed vegetable protein

oat (avena sativa)

samino peptide complex

phytosphingosine extract

triticum vulgare

Secale Cereale

Sodium C8-16 Isoalkylsuccinyl Wheat Protein Sulfonate

wheat germ

vitamin e

yeast extract

It has taken me almost a year to pick my favorite gluten-free beauty brands. While I don’t use all of these brands, I like them all because of the natural ingredients they are derived from. While many cosmetics can be made at home, I thought the list below would be helpful for those of us that don’t always have time to make our own beauty products. I hope this list helps you the next time you are shopping online or at the grocery store:

Gluten-Free Beauty Brands:

AnneMarie Borlind

Many of these beauty products can be found on iHerb as well as at Sunflower Markets, Whole Foods and other national grocery and health food stores.

Beauty Smoothie! (Dairy-Free, Sugar-Free & Vegan)

Want to get  your GLOW on?! I know it is not pumpkin season, but fortunately you can enjoy pumpkins year round and they will do wonders for your skin. Pumpkin is an outstanding source of Vitamin A, fiber and iron. Chard is jam packed with Vitamins A, C, E, K, magnesium and potassium. Vitamin A promotes skin cell turnover which helps bring new skin cells to the surface. It is a fabulous antioxidant that boosts your immune system and promotes skin health.

Add to Vitamix or Blender:

1 17 oz. carton of Pacific Natural Foods Organic Pumpkin Puree (I found it at my local Whole Foods)

3 cups homemade almond milk (or unsweetened almond milk)

3-4 large red chard leaves (kale also works great)

3/4 cup chia seeds

1/2 cup coconut nectar

Blend on high for several minutes. Pour into glasses and enjoy!

Makes 6 servings.

Please note you are welcome to omit the coconut nectar if you want no added sugar/sweetner at all, but my kids drink this smoothie with me everytime I make it so a touch of sweetness makes it a recipe my whole family will enjoy!
